China CDC urges WHO to take ‘scientific, impartial’ stance on COVID-19 origins
SHANGHAI: On Saturday (April 8), the director of China’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urged the World Health Organization (WHO) to return to a “scientific and impartial” stance in tracing the origins of COVID-19.
At a press conference, Shen Hongbing warned WHO against politicizing the source of the virus, first discovered in central China in late 2019, or becoming a tool for other countries.
The WHO director-general on Thursday pressed China to share information about the origins of COVID-19.
“Without full access to information that China has, we cannot say this or that,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“All hypotheses are on the table. That’s WHO’s position and that’s why we asked China to cooperate.”
“If they do, we’ll know what happened and how it started,” he added.
