Vietnam conducts TikTok ‘comprehensive inspection’ for harmful content
HANOI: The Vietnamese government said it would inspect TikTok’s domestic operations from May to ensure that the video platform complies with regulations on content management, tax payment and commercial policies.
A popular Chinese-owned application that offers bite-sized videos recently allowed “harmful, offensive, false and superstitious” content on its platform, Minister Le Quang Tu Do said in a statement this week.
“TikTok, Facebook and YouTube are all cross-border social media with international standards. However, when operating in Vietnam, platforms must comply with local regulations for both content and tax obligations,” said Do.
The company said in February that it had heard from the Korea Broadcasting Corporation that a government delegation would visit its Vietnam office in the second quarter.
